Gear Review – Ultralight Water Filter

Ultralight Water Filter.

Gotta stay hydrated, right?! No need to carry all the water you need for a trip, you can create fresh, cold water anytime you want! Fortunately we live in a part of the world with lots of water, so you can just keep your bottles/bladder topped up as you go.  Cold water sure is nicer to drink too! This setup is so small and light, it has a permanent spot in my kit, even on day-rides.

I’ve been putting this kit together over the last bunch of years, with lots of trial and error. I wanted something that had a wide mouth that could capture a ton of water in one scoop. I wanted to be able to transport it back to camp without leaking. I wanted it to gravity fill both bottles and hydration bladders. And I wanted to maintain it by backflushing it in the field. Well…… here it is!!

Multiple Filtering Options

It can be used in a few different ways.  – It can be drunk through directly from the water as a straw filter.- The 28mm thread on both sides allows for many collapsible bottles and standard pop and water bottles to be threaded directly on either end. This also allows you to put a bottle of clean water on the outlet side and squeeze and backflush the filter to clean it. By using the included adapter and hose, any bag can be turned into a ‘dirty water’ holding bag. Just punch a small hole and bolt in the adapter. You now have a giant bag that can scoop up large amounts of water and hang as a gravity filter back in camp.
