Naturehike Ultralight Sleeping Pad.
A comfortable night’s sleep is a big deal. It means the difference between being sore and cranky or being rested and ready to face the day! So, an adequate sleeping pad is a pretty important part of getting that proper rest.
Sweet Dreams
- What’s with all the weird bumps?? The rhombus-shaped tracheal design provides good support and facilitates air circulation. When inflated, the pad is around 2.5 inches. Now, I know it’s tempting to blow it up all the way, but trust me, don’t! I may seem counter-intuitive, but you’ll get a better sleep if you keep it but lower. Especially if your’re a side sleeper.
- It’s tough! They call it a unique double-layer composite laminating process. Call it what you want, but it does seem more durable than other pads. Which hopefully means less punctures! And airtight means waterproof too, so if you end up with a little puddle in the corner of the tent overnight, don’t sweat it.
- Packs up small. I remember the good old days when you had to strap the pad to the side of your backpack. Those days are long gone. Now, remember here that there is nothing inside except air, no foam or feathers. So, it packs small, but it only has an insulation value around R2. So, fine for summer, but definitely not for when i the starts getting colder.
- There are regular and wide sizes. Both are the same length, but the bigger one is 10cm wider. I’m not a big guy, but I have wide shoulders. The extra bit makes a difference for me.
- Blows up easier using the inflation bag, but so is packing it away. It has a fancy double-layer air valve. The outer bit contains a one-way valve to prevent air leakage, and the inner valve purges the air quickly when opened.
Using the Inflation Bag
This is my favourite feature of the newest crop of sleeping pads, a mechanical means of blowing it up. No more having to blow moist air inside the pad to set up camp. Attach the bag, give it a little shake, and roll it up. Pro tip #2872346, hold your mouth a few inches away from the opening of the bag and give a gentle blow. It’s amazing how much more air gets inside. With large volume pads like these, this is the best way to fill it up. Race your buddies in camp!
